The Tragic Toll of the Liuyang Fireworks Explosion: Can 37 Lives Earn Us a Deeper Respect for Workplace Safety?

On May 4, an explosion occurred at Hunan Liuyang Huasheng Fireworks Manufacturing and Firing Co., Ltd. As of May 8, the accident had left 37 people dead, one person missing, and 51 injured. The crimson flames of the blast shattered the tranquility of the “hometown of fireworks,” snatching away the happiness of dozens of families.

After the incident, reporters visiting the scene found that nearly every workshop had a talisman posted at its entrance to ensure safety. However, these talismans failed to bring peace; inside the factory premises… Anti-static equipment is covered in dust and has been left unused for an extended period; strong oxidizers are stored together with reducing agents such as silver powder on the floor. Chaotic and disorganized.

Industry analysis indicates that even the slightest friction or static spark on the surface can trigger a violent combustion or explosion in environments where chemicals are stored together. In fact, industry standards for fireworks have long stipulated: Hazardous workrooms shall be equipped with static-dissipative flooring, with the surface resistivity maintained within 0.05 MΩ ~ 1.0 MΩ. However, dust‑laden anti‑static equipment and haphazardly stacked materials rendered these procedures—meant to safeguard lives—nothing more than a formality. The loss of 37 lives was not a natural disaster but a preventable accident caused by the disregard of safety regulations.

Static electricity: the “dangerous fuse” hidden beneath your feet.

Many people are unaware that static electricity is ubiquitous in industrial production. In particular, dust particles generate static charge through collisions and friction; when this charge accumulates to a certain level, it can discharge and instantly ignite flammable or explosive materials.

In fact, according to the requirements of the “Design Code for Electrostatic‑Dissipative (Anti‑Static) Flooring” GB 50515‑2010: All hazardous areas containing flammable and explosive gases, liquids, dusts, and solid materials must be equipped with conductive (or antistatic) flooring. This is an essential component of electrostatic safety systems engineering and a critical safeguard for production safety.

A single square meter beneath your feet can mean the difference between life and death in an instant.

In Flammable and explosive hazardous areas, Anti-static flooring is not merely decorative; it serves as a vital “life‑saving barrier” that safeguards production. It can rapidly dissipate the static charges generated by human walking or equipment operation into the grounding system, preventing their accumulation in the environment. Eliminate explosion and fire risks at the source.

However, having the equipment alone is not enough. In day-to-day operations, even with an antistatic floor already installed, … Chemical storage regulations must be strictly enforced, and floor resistance values should be regularly monitored during routine management to ensure long-term reliability. When it comes to workplace safety, there is no room for even the slightest complacency.

Naidisi , Technology safeguards safety underfoot

Nedis has been dedicated to the flooring industry for 24 years, consistently committed to safeguarding safety across all sectors with its cutting-edge antistatic flooring technology.

Its antistatic flooring system is achieved by incorporating conductive additives—such as modified graphene—into the flooring material. Form a floor coating with antistatic or static-dissipative properties. Its Surface resistance value Stability control in 5X104-1X109 Omega between, fully compliant with national Anti-static flooring The standard specifications.

Moreover, It also has Wear-resistant, heavy-load resistant, chemically resistant, non-slip, fire-retardant Wait Outstanding performance provides an invisible yet robust “safety net” for the production floor.

By virtue of Solid R&D and manufacturing capabilities, Nedis Nadis antistatic flooring is widely used in Electronics/Communications / Computer / Semiconductor / Medical care / Petrochemicals / Aerospace Wait to receive Domain.

No matter Is it a nanoscale laboratory, or a hazardous‑chemical workshop filled with airborne dust? Nedis Naidisi consistently safeguards the safety of every factory with its rigorous flooring solutions. (Below are selected case studies of anti-static flooring projects.)

△ Wei Yingxing, Panjin, Liaoning | Anti-static self-leveling floor

△   Guangdong Hanbang Technology | Anti-static self-leveling + anti-static Waterborne polyurethane

Guangzhou Dacai Technology | Anti-static self-leveling + anti-static Ultra-durable polyurethane

Shenzhen-Shantou BYD | Anti-static self-leveling + Anti-static polyurethane, ultra‑wear‑resistant

△ Jiangxi State Grid Electric Power | Anti-static self-leveling colored sand

Thirty-seven lives lost—once again, this serves as a stark reminder: when it comes to workplace safety, there is no such thing as “luck.” Every square meter designed to prevent static electricity does not merely block electric current; it safeguards against a catastrophe that could shatter families and claim lives.

We deeply mourn the victims of the Liuyang explosion and sincerely pray for the swift recovery of those who were injured. Yet, addressing hidden dangers and respecting safety regulations are the true safeguards. May the floors of every production workshop bear the weight of technology and responsibility, rather than the tears of carelessness and regret.
